William Allen White Book Award Medal
William Allen White Book Award is the Kansas State book award given each year for the most
outstanding contribution to children's literature. Kansas students in 3rd through 8th grades read
the titles from the current year special book lists. There are two lists. One recommended reading
for grades 3rd - 5th, and another recommended for grades 6th - 8th. Both lists offer titles that
can be read and voted on by either age group. If a student wishes to vote from each list he or
she must read a minimum of two titles from each list. Titles in the 6th - 8th grade list often
reflect a main protagonist that is middle or high school aged and may have content or language
that is more appropriate for middle school aged students.
